How do I order a Trex®Pergola™?
You may order a Trex®Pergola™ from your participating Trex dealer, Trex Pro Contractor, or directly from Backyard America. If you have trouble finding a dealer call toll free: 877.489.8064.
How are the pergola kits delivered?
Most Trex®Pergola™ kits are delivered directly from the factory by common carrier. The driver is not required to unload (although most will help) so you should have some help available to unload the kit. If you live in a remote area, please call to see if additional delivery charges are required.
WHITE GLOVE DELIVERY: Our White Glove delivery service provides inside delivery to residential, medical, and retail facilities across the continental U.S. for one low flat rate of $200. Delivery will be to the first dry area such as a garage.
How are the sizes of the pergola determined?
Pergola kits are ordered by the width and projection. Width is the length of the beam including the decorative ends (Approximately 12" each). Projection is the length of the rafters including the decorative ends (Approximately 9" each).
What if I'm not sure which size I need or what the pergola will look like on my deck or patio?
Our pergola experts are available to help ensure that you get the right pergola kit. We also offer a rendering service that will provide a perspective drawing of your design for a small fee. The fee will be applied to the purchase price if you decide to order a kit.
How long does it take to assemble a pergola kit?
That depends on the size of the pergola and the experience of the installers. Typically our pergola kits are a weekend project for two people, although installers with a little experience in assembling outdoor structures can install an average kit in less than a day.
What tools will I need to assemble my pergola kit?
Tools needed to install a kit include a screw gun, a couple of step ladders, a measuring tape, an electric drill with 1/2" masonary bit, and a few other hand tools. The step-by-step illustraded instructions will provide you with a complete list of tools.
Does the kit include everything I need to assemble the kit?
All of the assembly hardware including screws are included in the kit. If you are using one of our columns you will need to buy some epoxy kits to set the tension rods used for mounting. If your pergola is to be attached to your home or other structure, you will need to provide the screws or bolts needed to mount the header board.
How long after assembly do I have to wait before I can use my Trex®Pergola™?
As soon as you clean up and put away your tools your Trex®Pergola™ is ready to use and enjoy.
How were the specifications for spans, snowloads and wind loads determined?
All of our pergola specifications regarding load performance were determined by actual load testing by independent licensed professional engineers. » CLICK HERE for more information on engineering testing.
Can I hang a swing from my pergola?
No. Pergolas are not designed to support swings, hanging chairs, or other heavy objects.
Will I have to get a building permit for a pergola?
Probably not, but if you are not sure check with your local building department before you place your order. The requirements for permits vary from juristiction to juristiction.
Are there special requirements for mouting the pergola to my deck or patio?
It is very important that care is taken to ensure that columns are mounted solidly to the deck or patio. For ground or deck mounts 6.5" TrexTrim™ post wrap can be used with a treated wooden 6" x 6". For attached models the brackets may be mounted to the surface of the patio. For freestanding models, the support posts should be set 30" or more into the ground for patios and mounted securely to framing when added to a deck. Please call 877.489.8064 for any any questions regarding how to mount columns properly.
